Karina Fernandez
Biography
Karina Fernandez was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She's lived in Europe since 2001 and has been based in Vienna, Austria, since 2008. Her works are on the verge of bio and multimedia art through site-specific, kinetic, interactive, and urban installations. She chooses found objects, discarded materials, new, innovative materials, overlooked characters, and improbable heroes as the subjects of her undertakings, opening up a space through her praxis where they get a different voice and a body in new flesh.
Karina Fernandez holds Fine Arts (1990) and Visual Arts (2003) Master degrees from UNA, Universidad de las Artes, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and a Master in Digital Art from the Universität für Angewandte Kunst with Ruth Schnell in Vienna (2023).
Since 2001, she has participated in artistic projects and exhibitions in multimedia arts in Latvia, Germany, Croatia, China, Argentina, and Austria.
She has exhibited works at the Kunstlerhaus Museum (Vienna, 2013), the MAK (Museum für Angewandte Kunst) (Vienna, 2014/2015), and the Arsenale/Biennale d'arte di Venezia ("Biennale sessions", Venice, Italy, 2013).
